Giddy on a Friday

I don't know about you, but I've had a week fully of crazy. A very busy weekend full of good things is coming up. I've spent so much time trying to get ahead and make space for those good things that I had officially stressed myself out by about 7:00 last night.

So I did what I like to do when stressed - I took a nap.

I haven't always allowed myself the pleasure of naps. But as I got older and the kids started to wear me out daily, I decided to view them (naps - not the kids! Oh, wait a minute...) as a necessary evil, a nice respite from the exhaustion of 2 little kids on different sleep schedules. Finally, when they were about 3 and 4, respectively, I'd break out the sleeping bags, set-up a room full of places to curl up, and plug in the movie "Babe" on repeat. I could sleep anywhere, during any kind of noisy chaos at that point.

So now, on this day that will likely be sunny and beautiful, the hammock is out, the iced tea is brewing, and Ezmond, the best napping partner in the world, is ready to join me. He likes that hammock, let me tell you, and he'd get up there all the time, by himself, if he could figure it out.

What makes you giddy this Friday? Do Fridays still feel for you, like they do for me, so nice and full of possibilities? Have a most glorious end to your week - and beginning to the fun ahead!

  1. I am just now learning to nap. Like my grandmother, I have learned that a 10 minute respite can make tha huge difference in the rest of the day. I love your picture. It does look like you're giddy and ready for the weeeknd.

  2. I am a great believer in naps. Especially when I am stressed, they almost demand to be taken, I can't keep my eyes open.

Ezmund is clearly a Wonder Dog. He belongs in the Dog Hall Of Fame.

For me, fridays are not the end of the work week, as I work saturdays, usually. But I am off today. A little off every day, you say? Peese shut mouf. LOL.

  6. It is wonderful to hear from you! I hope that you and Scarlet get to ride around in a convertible together, minus the cops and the cliff.

    *Hairdryers and cowboy hats optional.

Giddy? I can't say a nap because I took one this morning (I'm with you - it was awesome). I guess I am giddy because we don't have to go ANYWHERE tonight. We are going to stay home and veg out in front of the TV!!

  7. I'm a friend of Scarlet and had to check out your blog since she mentioned the whole Thelma and Louise road trip thing that I wanted to horn in on. :)

I love naps. Little kids will just knock you out. I say take a nap whenever you can get one.

  8. Cute pic! What is making me crazy this week? I think you already know...

I remember reading Brett Butler saying that "like all good Southern girls," she knew "the value of napping, bubble baths and a good cry."

Pure genius as far as I am concerned :)

  9. Annie: Thanks! Ez is such a lap dog. But he's a cover thief!

Blossom, darling: I nap when stressed, too. I want to open a grown-up kindergarten for all us nappers. A place we could go to in the early afternoon and have a blanket and a cookie and 30 minutes of nothing.

Dawn: Thanks! I hope your day is full of peace and calm, too.

Scarlet: There's nothing more refuling than a nap in a hammock while you keep the convertible in site.... just off route 66 somewhere in Arizona. Oh, here I go again!

Joe: Funny! Thanks - I hope your Friday was fantastic!

Jen: Isn't a good cowboy a necessity once in a while? Thanks for stopping by!

Nadine: Thanks for the visit. I wish I'd been better about napping when the kids were little. But hey, I get to enjoy them more when I don't have the old "Mommy..." at the door every five minutes!

RK: One of my favorite quotes, too. So a perfect, miserably wonderful afternoon would include crying yourself to sleep in the bubble bath :-)

  10. TGIF :) I love Fridays!!!!

When I was single, there is always 'happenings' on a Friday night and planning to go to all the parties, shopping over the weekend.

Now that I am married (ahem)...yes I love Fridays too coz it means sleep late over the weekend and busy busy busy with choas for the family :D

  11. Behold, the power of a good nap. I swear the Goose would rather nap than breathe. She just absolutely loves laying in bed, throwing on trash tv and napping. There is something quite cathartic about it for many people.

  12. PG....G-Man here.
I've seen you at Shay's place, and around Blog-Land.
First of all, I love your moniker.
Secondly, I read your last post and happened upon your foot pic.
    Thank You....

(I hope that wasn't TOO creepy)

    Carry On....G
